Quilts made for my niece Shari's daughters

Sara Rae for President (1994)

Sara's quilt was inspired by a top I saw at a Quilters' Connection meeting many years ago.  I calculated what presidential election year would be the first for her to be eligible to run.  The letters and numbers were ironed onto the background fabric by at commercial t-shirt shop.
The two borders suggest patriotic stars and stripes.

The label says:  This baby quilt was specially made for Sara Rae Buruschkin born on August 21, 1994 by your mother's aunt who wants you to grow up believing that you can be whatever you dream of and are willing to work for, even president of the United States.

Cat Quilt made for Brina Kuzel (2004)

Brina's cat quilt has 4 hand-embroidered squares designed by Sandy Gervais of Algona, Iowa and an embroidered center square with her name and birth date.  I matched the colors of the embroidery to the bright colors of the cartoon-like cats in the printed fabric.
The label idea came from the book "One of a Kind Quilt Labels: Unique Ideas for a Special Finishing Touch" by Thea Nerud and features a pieced kitty in an appliquéd heart.  This photo also shows the paw print fabric I used for the narrow sashing between the blocks and for the binding.   It says, "Hand stitched for Brina Elizabeth Kuzel born on December 19, 2000 by your mother’s aunt Martha Presberg Supnik, Carlisle, Massachusetts, Thanksgiving 2004.  Cat patterns designed by Sandy Gervais of Algona, Iowa."
