My Latest Quilts

Colorado Log Cabin Quilt for Diane and Fritz Green (2012)

After Diane and Fritz Green lost their New Hampshire home in a tragic fire, I promised I'd make them a new bed quilt for their new home.  This is a close-up of the center of the Colorado log cabin quilt I made.

The design was published by Judy Martin in her book "Scrap Quilts" in 1985. Laurie LaConte of Acton, MA did the machine quilting.

Pennsylvania-style sampler quilt for Lori Kahn (2013)

My friend Lori Kahn makes beautiful glass mosaic pictures and suggested that we swap projects when I saw her  at Timberlock in August 2012.  She made me this fantastic wall clock for my dining room based on a quilt pattern called Mariner's Compass.

In return, I designed a pieced sampler quilt with an appliqué border for Lori.  She loves bright colors so I used reproduction antique fabrics like those of mid-19th century Pennsylvania quilts.  My idea was to pretend that I collected a variety of different blocks in two sizes with different red backgrounds and then put them together like a puzzle.  I chose patterns that were fun to do and the label on the back of the quilt tells the name and reason for each block.

Here's a picture of Lori under her quilt in her very colorful house.

Shooting Star Wedding Quilt (2013)

Our nephew Mark Waks married Kate Thornton in September 2013.  My wedding quilt for them has several different star blocks all from Judy Martin's books.  The shooting star arrangement was Kate's great idea and we had fun designing it together.  I drew many versions of the quilt with my Electric Quilt 6 software and sent images up and back to Kate and Mark for their comments by e-mail.  The machine quilting was done by Cheryl Dennis of Westford, MA.  The bottom corners of the quilt are cut out to fit their special bed.
