Images Auction Miniature Quilts

This miniature quilt was machine pieced and hand quilted with Warm and White cotton batting for the New England Images 2004 silent auction to benefit the New England Quilt Museum. The pattern was known by 9 different names in the 1930s. The most common is “Rose Dream” but my favorite is “Martha”. It was made of 3 inch blocks and finished 25 inches square. The exhibition at the museum during the festival was "Elegant Antiques in Red and White". I borrowed some of these red and white fabrics from several quilting friends to get the old-fashioned scrappy look. I also used traditional red and white fabrics because I thought people might see it as a good Christmas gift for a friend. I hoped quilters would be more likely to bid on a quilt with curves and tiny pieces that they'd hesitate to make for themselves. The quilt sold for a high bid of $150 on Sunday, August 8, 2004 at the end of the Lowell Quilt Festival.

This miniature quilt was machine pieced and machine quilted for the Images 2008 silent auction to benefit the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, MA. It features a variation of a quilt block called Giddap when first published in the Kansas City Star on July 18, 1931 and Democrat Donkey in the mid-1930s.  I thought it would be popular in that presidential election year.  Another volunteer at the museum made a matching miniature Republican Elephant quilt for the same auction.  They were displayed "facing" each other.
