Quilts made for my niece Dina's children

Guido Secchiaroli (2002)

Guido's quilt has a bright orange snake embellished with jumbo rickrack.  The writing is made with baby rickrack and says "S is for Smile, Snake, Secchiaroli".  The orange batik fabric has a diamond pattern that reminded me of snake skin.  The blue background fabric has little flecks of the same orange.

The label says:
This baby quilt was designed and stitched especially for Guido Michael Secchiaroli born June 4, 2002 in New Haven, Connecticut by his maternal great aunt, Martha Presberg Supnik in Carlisle, Massachusetts.  I chose an orange snake because your parents were raising beautiful corn snakes before they began raising their beautiful baby boy.

Jalina Mae Secchiaroli (2004)

I found the pattern for Jalina's quilt several years before she was born and saved it for the right occasion.  It is entirely pieced of squares of fabric from a chart like cross-stitch or needlepoint.  I hand-embroidered the word Peace in the background.
The detail of the sheep shows the machine quilting suggesting curly wool and grass in the background.
The detail of the lion shows the machine quilting on his mane.

The label says:
This baby quilt was machine pieced and quilted especially for Jalina Mae Secchiaroli born September 3, 2004 in New Haven, Connecticut by her maternal great aunt, Martha Presberg Supnik in Carlisle, Massachusetts. The pattern came from the cover of Quiltmaker Magazine #66 in March/April 1999 and was chosen to express my wish for peace throughout your lifetime.
